"I Am Your Shepherd."

2-minute read

Here’s a run at Psalm 23, written from the perspective of God to you…

I am the LORD. I’m like a shepherd to you. You are like my little sheep.

With me as your shepherd, you won’t have need of anything.

I’ll make sure you rest—like a shepherd who points out lush green pastures and helps his little sheep nap in the sun.

I’ll lead you alongside quiet, trickling brooks so you can feel your soul come back to life, full and refreshed.

I’ll guide you the right way because I’m God and I want everyone to know I’m a good, good guide.

Yeah, we may go through dark, dark times…

But you won’t have to be afraid. You won’t. You really… really… won’t.

Why?

Because I’ll be with you.

I have a powerful shepherd’s staff and rod I’ll wield and swing on your behalf—just at the right time.

You can walk alongside me through the dark, know that I’m there to be with you and protect you, and you can walk in comfort. Yes, comfort… even in that scary valley.

There are forces in the world that want to get you. Who want to gobble you up, little sheep.

That’s okay. I’ve got my eye on them.

And I’m going to shame those forces by providing unbelievable provision for you.

While they stare at you with wolves’ eyes, wanting to eat you… you’ll be eating a sumptuous banquet. (And that’ll drive those evil forces crazy.)

I’ll look at you with delight and pride and pour oil on your head so you—and everyone who sees you—knows you’re my chosen one. You are unique and special to me.

The cup of my provision for you won’t be hardly filled. It won’t be half-filled. It won’t even be full. It’ll be overflowing. That’s how much goodness I have for you today.

My goodness and love are going to chase you down—follow you, tracking you, going hard after you—today and tomorrow and every day of your life. Believe it.

And, yes, you will live in my house—the house of the LORD—forever and ever and ever.

You are my sheep.

I am your good shepherd.
